Our difference lies at the core of who we are. We take pride in being Australia’s first and longest-running Aboriginal-controlled adult education organisation.
Since 1957, Tranby has been providing adult education and community-directed change. Every day, Tranby staff and board members continue this legacy, proudly engaging with and serving our local and national Indigenous Communities and always adapting to meet our students’ evolving needs.
DESIGNED BY AND FOR INDIGENOUS ADULTS
We teach for our Mob and are led by them too. We teach through a community-driven approach, ensuring that Tranby’s course content is engaging, relevant and culturally meaningful for students. Tranby’s courses are tailored to meet the diverse needs and interests of our Indigenous community.

WE ARE NATIONAL
For over 65 years, Tranby has welcomed students from the length and breadth of Australia. As an Indigenous Registered Training Organisation (IRTO), with a strong focus on rural, remote, and very remote regions, our alumni are found throughout Australia. Whether you are near or far from Gadigal land, you’re likely to meet someone who is part of the Tranby family.
This diversity strengthens our courses, connecting students from communities big and small, far and wide. It enables students to learn from each other and to understand the challenges facing different communities.
OUR TRAINERS UNDERSTAND COMMUNITY
To ensure that our students feel safe, supported, and understood throughout their Tranby learning journey, our bespoke programs are trained and facilitated by accredited Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander educators, wherever possible. In some cases, our trainers have previously been Tranby students themselves, which demonstrates the strong links many students make with us.
