What is this course?

This qualification reflects the role of community services workers who assist in the delivery of programs that contribute to the development of capacity through public social change processes. This course has been written to address issues that specifically impact Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island community development.

Elements covered include sustainable economic development incorporating self determination and management, and community consultation and planning. Course participants are required to work with a community based organisation as part of assessment for this course.

Who is this course suited to?

This course is designed for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who are currently working in, or wish to work within a community organisation. This level of work takes place within a professional team under the guidance of others to support development within the community. Successful completion of this course enables you to work in organisations across a range of social, health, environment, economic, arts and culture and recreation sectors.

Program Duration & Schedule

Tranby programs are delivered over a series of face-to-face training sessions (‘blocks’) of five days’ duration (Monday to Friday). Blocks are usually held 5 to 8 weeks apart, with a total of between 5 and 8 blocks, depending on the program. Delivery programs vary, to meet the needs of individual class groups whether it be Block release or on location weekly classes. Program duration will vary accordingly.

Students are also required to spend at least 15 hours per week between blocks undertaking research, reading and assessment activities.

Assessments must be submitted prior to the subsequent block.

Costs

Travel and accommodation for students travelling to Sydney is provided in accordance with Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet ‘Away from Base’ guidelines. This training is subsidised by the NSW Government.  ABSTUDY support is based on individual circumstances.
